Kate Waissel, the former star of the X Factor, may have set a new record for shortest marriage as she called it quits with her model husband, Brad Alphons, after a mere 10 weeks.

Lets put that claim to the test, shall we? Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' 72-day marriage has become the matrimony now synonymous with short-lived pairing, and Kate has blown their record out of the water. However former X Factor star's pairing has nothing on the nine-day-long marriage of Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra, or the 18-day vow exchange between Mario Lopez and Ali Landry. Still, when it comes to short-lived marriages, we always have to go back to the shortest, and probably most famous of all: Britney Spears and Jason Alexander's 55 hour-long marriage.

So no new records, but a divorce nonetheless, one which according to Kate happened because she realised that Brad really wasn't the one. Considering that they were together for around six months altogether, marriage included, we can understand that excuse. A source told the The Sunday Mirror: "Katie did fall head over heels for Brad but it was all too rushed. It soon became clear it wasn't going to work and she got fed up with him."

Oh well Kate, at least now you can concentrate on that singing career of yours....
