A couture dress made of cupcakes has been unveiled.

The bespoke design was commissioned especially for Food Network UK and is made up of 300 of the sweet treats from Rosalind Miller Cakes, in purple, red and pink shades to create a fashionable ombre effect.

The tasty 2 stone creation, accessorized with a handbag made up of 230 individual fondant red roses, took 3 days to complete and was displayed on Tuesday (17.09.13) in London's Icetank Studio.

Janis Morrison, the dress' designer, said: ''I was thrilled to be asked to be involved in creating this cupcake dress to mark Food Network's Cupcake Fashion Showcase. The initial brief was to use my imagination and create a spectacular dress using cupcakes.

''We took the decadence of cupcakes and reflected this in the Marie Antoinette inspired design. The full skirt needed a lot of cupcakes with the fluffiness of the icing creating a full textured skirt.''

As London Fashion Week came to a close, the confectionery creation celebrated the advent of National Cupcake Week.

Janis added: ''I was lucky enough to work with photographer Nicky Johnston on the shoot, who I have worked with for years. He has such a great eye to create gorgeous photos that bring the best out of the model and concept.''

Meanwhile, the world's most expensive cupcake - made up of Hawaiian AA tea, Chateau Yquem wine, Ritz escoffier and Charbonnel et Walker chocolates - had to be guarded by security throughout the day due to its hefty £768.85 price tag.

On Saturday 21 September, between 6.25am-10.00am and 12.00pm-6.00pm, Food Network UK will show back-to-back cupcake themed programming including 'Bake with Anna Olson', 'Barefoot Contessa', 'Cupcake Wars' and 'Ace of Cakes'. Food Network UK can be found on Freeview 41, Sky 262, Virgin 287 and Freesat 403.
