Returning group send Paramore plummeting down to 12
America seems to be having its own version of a guitar music revival at the moment, as the returning Fall Out Boy managed to replace another guitar band, Paramore, at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Fall Out Boy’s Save Rock & Roll managed to shift some 154,000 copies, making it their third biggest sales-week ever, and knocking the Hayley Williams fronted Paramore all the way down to 12th spot. Instead, Pete Wentz et al’s main competition came from Kid Cudi, who was nip and tuck all the way with the four-piece before yielding in second place with sales of 136,000. Paramore can probably feel a little disappointed with the second week sales of their self-titled new album, which suffered a 74% sales decline, clocking in figures of a mere 27,000 copies. It’s only the second number one charting album to drop out of the top 10 on its second week in 2013.
It was a mixed bag for returning New York punk group The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, too, who managed to get their first ever top 10 album placing, with Mosquito taking fifth spot in the charts. However it’s not the biggest selling week the group have ever had, with 2006’s Show Your Bones opening up with 56,000 sales – compared to 38,000 this week. A sign of the times most likely. The other two in the top five were familiar faces, with Justin Timberlake and Blake Shelton occupying third and fourth spot respectively.
