Fabrice Muamba has made a small improvement but remains in a critical position according to his current club Bolton Wanderers, just two days after the England Under 21 footballer collapsed on the field of play during a match between his club and Tottenham Hotspurs in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
A statement on the official Bolton website read, "Fabrice Muamba remains in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital, where today he is showing small signs of improvement. His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and his legs." The statement continued, to add "However, his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time. He is still critically ill and will continue to be closely monitored and treated by staff in The London Chest Hospital's intensive care unit."
Since the incident on Saturday, the football world has been reunited in its thoughts for the young star, with tributes from as far a field as Real Madrid coming in for the 23 year-old. In another statement on Bolton's website, the club's chairmen Phil Gartside commented of the medical help , saying, "The staff at the London Chest Hospital have been nothing short of exceptional and I would like to thank them all at this on-going critical time." It was also widely reported that Muamba took two hours to start breathing again following the collapse on Saturday afternoon.
