McHenry was caught on CCTV camera in a suburban car towing lot in Washington D.C. In the incident, which occurred on 6th April, McHenry cruelly berates the clerk at the lot and makes comments about her teeth, weight and intellect.
McHenry issued a statement apologising for her actions after the footage was leaked in which she excused her actions by claiming her cruel words were said "in an intense and stressful moment". She further apologised for her actions promising she would "learn from this mistake".
McHenry's comments were echoed by ESPN's senior coordinating producer Seth Markman. Markman released a statement in which he reiterated that McHenry had make a mistake and that she would be returning to ESPN to report on NFL related shows as she did last year.
"Listen, it wouldn't shock me if some people react negatively," Markman said to SI. "My head hasn't been buried in the sand. I've read a lot on this, and more than anything, she knows she made a mistake. She's owned up to it. I think she is just really anxious to get back to work."
"We had a conversation where we both talked about that it would take time and it will be hard. She knows that, and especially at the beginning. She realizes she will have to do her job really well and hopefully win back some of the trust of our viewers," Markham added.
