The singer/songwriter is nominated among a number of breakout acts.
Emeli Sande’s meteoric rise to success continues, with the singer being nominated for two prestigious Ivor Novello awards. After releasing a debut album that was both a fan favorite and a critical success in 2011, Sande went on to perform at the 2012 Olympics and she is now shortlisted in two categories of Britain’s most prestigious songwriting awards. This is only the latest honor, capping off an impressive year for Sande, which also saw the young songwriter win two BRIT awards – for best British female artist and best album.
The Ivor Novello awards are a highly coveted honor for up-and-coming and established British music writers, because they are voted on by composers, songwriters and industry professionals. The awards are to be presented by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors on May 16 this year.
Sande’s Next to Me is in the running for both best song and most performed work. The 26-year-old singer/songwriter has been nominated alongside Alt-J, as well as rapper Plan B. Leeds-formed indie rock quartet Alt-J is nominated for best contemporary song for Fitzpleasure and the album award for An Awesome Wave, while Plan B's Ill Manors is up for best contemporary song and best original film score.
It's safe to say Sande has been on fire this year.
