Sir Elton John and David Furnish are planning a small wedding ceremony after same-sex marriage was legalized in England and Wales last weekend.
Sir Elton John and David Furnish plan to marry in May.
The couple intend to make the most of new same-sex marriage legislation in England and Wales by officially tying the knot in a low-key church ceremony later this year.
They might have entered into a civil partnership nearly nine years ago, but after the landmark law was passed on Saturday (29.03.14), the showbiz pair revealed they are planning to tie the knot again so they can set a positive example for marriage equality.
Film producer told the Las Vegas Review Journal: ''We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.''
Elton, 67, and David, 51, are planning a small family affair with just a few witnesses and their sons Zachary, three; and Elijah, 14 months, in attendance - a far cry from the lavish 650-strong civil service ceremony they favoured in the past.
David explained: ''We do like big parties. Over eight years ago, we had 650 people on the 21st of December at our house in Windsor.
''But with the kids, everything is different. I think what we'll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses.''
