Following reports that CBS, which owns the technology website CNET, blocked the site from giving DISH Network's Hopper DVR its Best of CES award, DISH itself is taking out newspaper ads proclaiming that the Hopper was Named Best in Show followed by an asterisk. What's an asterisk doing in our award? the ad asks, then goes on to state, CBS will go to any lengths to keep you from enjoying ad-skipping technology, even so far as to censor its own writers and throw out their decision to name Hopper Best in Show. CBS has filed a lawsuit against DISH claiming the Hopper technology, which skips commercials on shows previously recorded on the DVR, amounts to copyright infringement.
