Tv director Joel Rosenzweig has died, aged 66.

He passed away at his home in Richardson, Texas last Wednesday (29Oct14).

A cause of death has yet to be revealed, but Rosenzweig recently underwent a heart procedure, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The director was mentored by actress Nina Foch while studying at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts and he staged the first-ever production of The Who's 1969 rock opera Tommy as part of his master's thesis.

He took the show to Hollywood at the age of 22 and hired a professional cast, headed up by Ted Neeley, to stage Tommy at the Aquarius Theatre.

He moved into Tv in the 1980s, helming two episodes of classic detective series Cagney & Lacey in 1987 and The Trials of Rosie O'Neill in the early 1990s.

Both projects starred his sister-in-law, actress Sharon Gless, who was married to his older brother, producer Barney Rosenzweig, who also worked on the two shows.

He later reunited with Cagney & Lacey's Tyne Daly for 1994 series Christy.

Rosenzweig also served as a producer on celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D's U.S. reality show LA Ink in 2007 and 2008.

He had one professional acting credit to his name, appearing as a policeman in a 1977 episode of Charlie's Angels.
