Deadliest Catch season nine premiered last night without star sailor Elliot Nesse, but why?
Deadliest Catch star missing. Deadliest Catch star Elliot Nesse was nowhere to be seen in Discovery's first promo for the ninth series of the show, leaving many to wonder whether the captain of the Ramblin' Rose has been given the boot from his vessel and thus the show too. With last night's (April 11) premiere, Nesse was still nowhere to be seen and the viewers at home weren't the only ones pondering about Nesse's possible whereabouts.
Seabrooke captain Scott Campbell Jr., a.k.a. Junior, was dumbfounded over Nesse's absence from the first episode of the show, telling the cameras "Elliot should be here. He should be ready to go." Although there was one person who was a little less taken aback by Nesse's unknown leave than everybody else, Northwestern captain Sig Hansen. Hansen recalled the previous series of the show and how the relatively young Nesse was beginning to let the stress of the job get to him far too much and was visibly unable to cope by the end of season eight. Veteran fisherman Hansen said in last nights episode, "In all honesty, I’m kinda not surprised Elliott isn't here this year … No owner is going to let a guy run a boat and not produce. You're going to lose your job."
Sig Hansen isn't surprised by Nesse's absence
Fans of the show will probably understand where Hansen was coming from in the season premiere, but a totally unannounced, unexpected walk-out from the show leaves the reasoning behind his absence smelling rather fishy. Really though, it's more than likely that the quiet over Nesse leaving the show was done by Discovery for dramatic effect so Nesse can make a dramatic entry to the show later in the series. Discovery's website implies that Nesse will be on the show at some point, with a post on the site reading: "The youngest skipper in the fleet, Elliott Neese, is all in this year as he returns as the owner of his own boat, the F/V Saga." Also, Nesse has confirmed that he'll be back on the show via his Twitter account, so yeah, he'll be back.
