Known for his famous catchphrase “YEEEEEEPPPP!!” former Storage Wars man Dave Hester has found himself reacting to the show somewhat more negatively of late, after accusing the A&E-made show of planting specific goods inside the storage lots up for auction before the bidding gets underway.
For those that don’t know this ridiculous but bizarrely compelling show; a group of collectors trawl the storage compounds of the USA where they are invited to bid blind on storage spaces that have either been abandoned or whose rent has not been paid on time. The joy of course is that they could end up with a right load of old garbage, or they might get some collectable gold in their haul; the winner of each show being the one who manages to collect the most value from their lot.
Anyway, Hester – formerly one of the show's biggest stars – has filed a lawsuit against A&E claiming that the lots were rigged, and furthermore stating that he was fired because he’d complained to the producers about these practices. He cited incidences of a BMW mini car being hidden under trash, as well as old newspapers documenting the death of Elvis Presley. We’re sort of with him at this point, some of the stuff they find is almost too good to be true. However, then he apparently goes on to claim that the show’s bosses are giving the less photogenic of the collectors plastic surgery to “create more sex appeal” at which point we’ve got to say, we’re not going to invest in this one.
Dan Dotson, who is behind the show’s auction company, told TMZ “We only sell legitimate units on Storage Wars. Every unit goes through a 64-day legal process and no one has access to units prior to auction.”
