It may not be considered as significant an event as the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes, but the Critic's Choice Awards still had Hollywood's finest turning up in their finest gear and with full intention to leave the night with some kind of recognition. Of course not everyone could leave with an award and as a result there was some unhappy people leaving empty handed.
12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen and Philomena star/screenwriter Steve Coogan represented the UK and left without awards
Few could argue with the distribution of the acting awards, although some may say that Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle was a more deserving Best Supporting Actress winner than 12 Years A Slave's Lupita Nyong’o. People could also argue that, given his success in the comedy category, Leonardo Dicaprio deserved at least a nomination in the Best Actor department, especially considering fellow comedy nominee Christian Bale was represented in both categories. There will also be cries from people wanting to see the Coen Brothers gain more recognition for Inside Llewyn Davis, but the moviemaking siblings were roundly dismissed yet again.
Lupita Nyong’o won the Best Supporting Actress award
