Western star Dale Robertson has passed away after a period of illness
Hollywood has said farewell to another classic film icon – the western star Dale Robertson.
The actor passed away at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California at the age of 89. The news was first confirmed by his niece, Nancy Robertson. Her uncle reportedly died after a brief period of illness, according to ABC News. In his heyday Dale Robertson was known primarily for starring in westerns, such as portraying Jesse James in Fighting Man on the Plains. The actor came from humble beginnings though, and initially only managed to land small parts in films like The Boy with the Green Hair and Flamingo Road. After his big break though, Robertson moved on to television, which at the time was just beginning to kick off as a medium. He starred in such classics series as Tales of Fargo Wells, Iron Horse and Death Valley Days, the last of which ran into the early 70s. Unsurprisingly, Robertson’s career continued throughout the 70s and well into the mid-80s, when he landed roles on popular shows like Dynasty and Dallas, beloved by generations of American TV fans. The actor’s final role came in 1993 as Zeke on Harts the West.
Afterwards, the actor returned to his native Oklahoma and devoted his time to family. "I remember him as a larger-than-life fellow," his niece said. "When he was in town it was always very exciting. It always meant something magical was going to happen." A memorial service for the beloved actor will be held in a few weeks, according to the family.
