Rebekah Gibbs, the British actress best known for her role as paramedic Nina Farr on Casualty, has died at the age of 41.

The news was confirmed by Gibbs' agent Belfield and Ward who announced the sad news on Twitter on Tuesday (11th November). The company wrote 'Darling Rebekah Gibbs - a true inspiration and dazzling light - never to be forgotten.'

Gibbs had been battling with cancer for six years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2008 and received successful treatment immediately. In 2010 she announced she had been cancer free for two years and reached the five year clear mark in 2013.

Sadly, in August of this year, Gibbs suffered a seizure whilst on holiday in Devon. Gibbs was taken to hospital where doctors diagnosed her with two brain tumours. She was receiving palliative care at The Hospice in the Weald in Kent when she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Her husband, Ashley Pitman, released a statement in which he thanked staff at The Hospice, their friends and Gibbs' well wishers for their support. Pitman concluded his statement with 'I'd also like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and messages at this difficult time. My daughter and I take a great deal of comfort from this as we come to terms with life without our Rebekah.'

Gibbs starred on Casualty between 2004 and 2006, appearing in over 100 episodes as the BBC reports. Gibbs also appeared in The Bill and made numerous stage performances in such musicals as Grease and Starlight Express.

Contactmusic send their condolences to Rebekah Gibb's family and friends.
