The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced today (Wednesday) that it will hand out next year's BAFTA awards on Feb. 16. Unlike the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the British Academy has apparently not decided to avoid competition with the Winter Olympics, which opens in Sochi, Russia on Feb. 7 and continues through the 23rd. Both the Olympics and the BAFTAs will be televised by the BBC. Earlier this week, the U.S. Motion Picture Academy announced that it would shift the date of the 86th annual Oscar ceremony from Feb. 22 to March 2 in order to avoid competition with the Olympics. It will be televised by ABC from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
