The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2 debuted over the weekend with a whopping 3.85 million DVD and Blu-ray Discs sold, Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment announced today (Tuesday). The weekend sales numbers -- ordinarily home video releases are scheduled for Tuesdays -- exceeded those of Breaking Dawn -- Part 1, which debuted on Valentine's Day weekend a year ago (a month after Lionsgate acquired Summit). We're particularly pleased that Breaking Dawn -- Part 2 opened even stronger than Breaking Dawn -- Part 1, Lionsgate exec Ron Schwartz said in a statement. Consumer demand for Breaking Dawn -- Part 2 reflects strength in all segments of the home entertainment marketplace -- packaged media, digital and on demand.
