ITV has recommissioned 'Birds of a Feather for another series'. The channel revived the former BBC sitcom - which ended for a reason - and watched it become its most successful comedy launch in over a decade.

Birds of a FeatherThe 'Birds of a Feather' Girls Are Returning for a Second Series on ITV

The new series - starring Pauline Quirke, Lesley Joseph and Linda Robson - will be the eleventh overall and the second for ITV. The latest series will be penned by original writers Laurence Marks, Maurice Gran, Gary Lawson and John Phelps and will begin filming later this year.

ITV's Director of Comedy and Entertainment Elaine Bedell added: "We're very pleased that the brilliant chemistry between these three great actresses once again attracted the large and loyal audience that Birds of a Feather deserves."

"The writers and producers have done a fantastic job in making the show feel funny, fresh and relevant."

Gran said: "We're delighted Birds of a Feather was such a success on ITV and really pleased to be asked to write another series. We hope the further adventures of Sharon, Tracey and Dorien will continue to thrill audiences young and old."

Birds of a FeatherBirds of a Feather Is Coming Back, Again!

It's easy to understand why ITV has recommisioned the show. The channel is hardly the doyen for quality comedy and drama in the UK - ratings are ratings, and good ratings usually lead to a recomission. The problem being, 'Birds of a Feather' is rubbish. For the most part, comedy shows are becoming more progressive and even the bad ones, let's say 'Mrs Brown's Boys' have a knack of delivering good gags are precisely the right time.

Anyone who watched the new episodes of 'Birds of a Feather' would have noticed the writer's glaring attempts to update the show whilst somehow rendering it even more outdated. Dorien has been rebranded as Foxy Cohen, the author of erotic novels not unlike the Fifty Shades of Grey books, there's jokes about eBay and Skype, and George Osborne.

It's unlikely that the new Birds of a Feather has won many new fans, though at least the old guard will be celebrating today.
