Besharam Is Out Soon In Cinemas.
Ranbir Kapoor plays Babli, a man who truly lives life to the fullest; a charming and street smart car mechanic who lives in a New Delhi orphanage. He works and parties hard but also steals cars to support his orphanage and it emerges that he has little sense of right or wrong. That is, until he unwittingly hurts the love of his life, Tara (played by Pallavi Sharda), and ends up being chased by cop couple Chulbul Chautala (Rishi Kapoor) and Bulbul Chautala (Neetu Singh Kapoor). This forces Babli to change his lifestyle and start making amends for his wrongdoings by doing the right things. However, he continues to be shameless in his actions, making for some rather funny scenes.
In the movie, Kapoor is joined by his real-life parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh Kapoor. They will be seen shaking their stuff with their son on dance number 'haath uthake naache,' sung by Daler Mahendi. His parents play Chulbul and Bulbul Chautala - the inspector and head constable of the police - so disciplining Babli won't be too far out of their comfort zones!
India TV News remarks that "Ranbir Kapoor and his parents perform against each other in perfect jugalbandi," explaining that the theme of the song revolves around the tussle between old and new as Babli and Tara dance alongside Chulbul and Chautala.
In their review, Business of Cinema identifies that the film is generic in its use of overblown, improbable stunts: "The action is over-the-top, with gravity-defying stunts, a trend that doesn't seem to stop."
Abhinav Kashyap, the director of Besharam, spoke of his reasons for picking Kapoor to star in his movie in a recent interview with India Times. "Ranbir is the biggest selling point of my film," he said. "There's no substitute to him. It wasn't too big a task to convince Ranbir. I sent him a message, and he showed interest in meeting me."
Kashyap also revealed how he looked beyond casting top actresses to relative newcomer Pallavi Sharda, saying"I wanted someone who would have exclusive time for the film[...]none of the lead actresses had that kind of time. Which is why, we decided to go ahead with a fresh face." He spoke strongly against his rumoured involvement with the 23 year-old Australian actress, saying "These rumours happen for a reason[...]And in totality it benefits the film. However, Pallavi and I have become close friends."
The Dabangg director also spoke of how he manages to get Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh Kapoor on board: "They had one demand - they wanted to read the scripts individually, and even if one had a problem, then it wouldn't work out. [They] would do Besharam only if they were entirely convinced. Thankfully, it worked in my favour. Besharam will be released on 2nd October in the UK and India.
