Legendary blues musician B.B. King has was taken to hospital in Las Vegas after suffering from a bout of severe dehydration, related to his Type 2 diabetes, but is on the road to a full recovery.

His daughter Claudette confirmed to the L.A. Times on Tuesday that the 89 year old musician had been hospitalised the day before. However, she also updated the media as to his condition and said that he is doing “much better”.

On Tuesday afternoon, the legend himself updated his fans by posting a Facebook message that read: “I want to thank everyone for their concern and good wishes,” the bluesman wrote. “I'm feeling much better and am leaving the hospital today.”

King, who was an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than twenty years ago. Last October, he was forced to cancel eight shows of his tour having suffered a similar problem after just coming off stage at Chicago’s House of Blues.

At the time, he said via his website: “I'm back at home now listening to music, watching movies, and enjoying some down time. I think I'm busier at home now than on the road talking to friends calling to check up on me. I do appreciate everyone's calls and concern. I want to tell you, I'm doing alright.”

Though he is set to turn 90 years old in September this year, the blues legend maintains a busy schedule. He used to play over 300 shows annually, and though he has decreased that number gradually over the last decade, he still performs over one hundred times every year.

King has recorded and released more than 50 albums, and has sold millions of copies around the world.
