Austrian Artist Ernst Fuchs Has Died, Aged 85.
His son Tillmann announced the painter passed away on Monday (09Nov15) but did not disclose the cause of death.
Fuchs was best known for his brightly coloured and heavily textured paintings, which focused largely on religious symbolism, and he also worked as a stage designer for opera productions in the 1970s before turning his hand to print making, composing, poetry and writing books about the art of painting.
In the 1970s, he restored a derelict villa outside of Vienna and it later became the Ernst Fuchs Museum in 1988, and he is one the founders of art facility the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism.
In 2004, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art for his achievements.
