Comics teens Archie, Jughead, Veronica and Betty look as though they'll be making the move to the big screen for the first ever time in a live action version of the popular Archie comics series. Archie Comics, the publishers of the series, posted on their website this week saying that a deal with Warner Brothers had been struck, indicating that a movie version of long-running comic book could well be in the pipeline.

The film will be set in the same fictional setting of Riverdale, based in the modern day and with all of the original characters from the comic series in live-form. Although Archie and some of the various off-shoots of the series that have emerged since the comic first went to print in 1941 have been made into cartoons or live-action television series - which spawned a TV movie - have been made, this will be the first time since the escapades of the four teen protagonists have made the direct move to the movies.

The red-headed Archie, his infatuation with Veronica and Betty and the antics of his best friend Jughead have become a well-known part of American popular culture and the characters have remained within modern culture, with the characters still mentioned today, on shows like The Simpsons, and in merchandising. "We are thrilled to be working with Warner Bros. on this project and have complete faith in their ability to bring Archie to the big screen in a way the fans will love," Jon Goldwater, publisher and co-CEO of Archie Comics, said in the statement released on their official website on Friday (June 7).

The publisher went on to mention that Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore will be in charge of the adaption, but no further details were revealed. There has yet to be any comment on the plans for a movie from Warner Bros.
