Rovio announce that Angry Birds has been made into a TV show, months after the news that an Angry Birds film will be released in 2016 was announced.
Angry Birds is by far one of the most successful mobile phone games of the current smartphone age, with the franchise already boasting a theme park based on the bird-firing game in Finland, with another scheduled to be built in China, all manner of merchandise already available as well as a movie coming in the near future. Now, with (angry) bird flu still as contagious as it has always been, the creators of the franchise have announced that the game will be given it's own cartoon series too, which will begin airing this weekend.
Angry Birds Toons will be made available to download through on-demand sites across the globe, with the show also being aired on a number of television channel across the globe, including FOX8 in Australia, ANTV in Indonesia, Cartoon Network in India, and MTV3 Juniori and MTV3 in Finland. The news was announced by chiefs at Rovio, the company behind the franchise, earlier today.
It's hard to avoid the round-shaped birds and their piggy antagonists nowadays, with Rovio expanding their merchandising campaign to all manner of produce: from soda cans to t-shirts. Late last year, the company announced that it had hired Hollywood executive David Maisel to serve as the executive producer of a 3D animated film planned for release in 2016. Whether Angry Birds mania will have blown over by then will have to be seen when 2016 comes around.
