Gloria Pall, the television hostess whose show was banned from TV for being too sexy, has died at the age of 85.
In the 1950s she was employed to introduce the romantic movie of the day, she created the character of Voluptua who was provocative in dress and pose, and was flirtatious towards camera. Because of this her show was banned after just seven weeks, due to numerous complaints from parental and religious groups. According to the Examiner "Pall felt her character was "corny not porny," and was "simply being suggestive" but fans dubbed her "Eyeful Tower" and "Miss Cleavage" which show her image at the time.
During her Hollywood career she was also a model and an actress, she appeared in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Jailhouse Rock and The French Line. After her acting career paled, she moved into real estate. She has also written numerous self published books.
Her life prior to Hollywood was just as exciting. She worked on the 56th floor of the Empire State Building, and was working there when a bomb hit the 79th floor in 1945. Speaking about it in 2008, as the LA Times reports, she told National Public Radio: "It threw me across the room, and I landed against the wall... We didn't know if it was a bomb or what happened. It was terrifying."
