5 Seconds of Summer's Luke Hemmings think Louis Tomlinson needs time to ''simmer down'' after finding out he is to be a father.

The 19-year-old star - who's toured with his own band alongside One Direction - said he hopes his pal is ''happy'' and that all the attention he's received since it was revealed he is expecting a baby with stylist Briana Jungwirth hasn't been ''too overwhelming'' for Louis.

The singer told MTV: ''I haven't spoken to him [Louis] yet. I'm just letting him simmer down. But I hope he's happy. I hope it's not too overwhelming for him.''

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell recently told Louis to ''man up'' after the One Direction singer revealed he was to become a dad.

The music mogul - who formed the band on 'The X Factor' and signed them to his record label Syco - said to Louis: ''You're fortunate because you're in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry about too much else.''

And Simon, 55, was keen to stress that Louis hadn't done anything wrong.

He said: ''He didn't kill anyone, he just got someone pregnant.''
