Netflix is reportedly set to bring back cult ’60s series ‘Lost in Space’. The series originally aired for three seasons from 1965-1968, with a total of 83 episodes. In 1998 it was remade for the big screen with Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham, but was negatively received by critics.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the news was confirmed to them by executive producer Kevin Burns, who directed a 1998 documentary on the series titled, Lost In Space Forever. The series is being written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (‘Dracula Untold’) and produced by ‘Game of Thrones’ Neil Marshall, who’s also said to be in line to direct

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Burns said: “Am I thrilled? Yes. We’ve obviously been developing Lost in Space for a long time, and we’ve had a couple of false starts. Just speaking for myself, we really felt that we had learned a lot from not only what we did, but what other people did and did wrong.”

In developing the series Burns had been working closely with Sheila Allen, the widow of series creator Irwin Allen, from 2000 until her death in 2013. The rights to Allen’s properties had been bought by production company, which Burns said was a perfect partner to bring back the series.

‘Lost in Space’ followed the Robinson family who were left stranded after their space exploration mission was sabotaged by the evil Dr. Smith. The series was set in 1997, 35 years in the future for viewers at the time.
