Statistics continue to pour forth from NBC publicists assigned to the Vancouver Olympics. In a press release on Thursday, they cited "research results" indicating that 35 percent of viewers cried or became teary-eyed when watching U.S. competitors win (25 percent of men). Some 34 percent said they put off doing the laundry, paying bills and doing other household chores while the Olympics were on. And 63 percent said that they stayed up longer than usual with 42 percent saying that as a result they felt "more tired than normal." A separate study, this one conducted by Nielsen, concluded, somewhat surprisingly, that females make up the majority of viewers for the Olympics, and that the number of viewers 55 and older is 82 percent higher than the national average, while the number of younger viewers and African-American viewers is significantly smaller.
