Review of World Waits Album by Jeremy Enigk

World Waits
Album Review
Enigk was the lead singer and songwriter for a cult alternative band called Sunny Day Real Estate, a band whose intensity was mesmeric. Like a lot of indie songwriters, Enigk's ability when he tones it down and plays 'quiet' leads to a lovely few moments. World Waits sounds like a slightly edgier Feeder - Enigk's voice is lovely, and he knows how to generate a sonic landscape.
The closest parallel would probably be to Ben Christophers, the UK musician whose voice can soar over a sweet sounding, left-leaning, instrumentation. In fact, there is an air of an alternative Yes in evidence - the ambition is clear (and quite 'progressive'). Jeremy Enigk will never be mainstream, and there are no singles on here, but World Waits is a very strong album.
