Inside Out, the new Pixar movie by Pete Docter, has premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a wave of strong reviews. It tells the story of Riley (Kaitlin Dyas), an eleven-year-old girl who has to leave behind her friends when her parents move to San Francisco.

Riley's father is setting up as an entrepreneur though the move is making her depressed in a way that her parents do not fully appreciate. Her emotions - Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear and Sadness - are plunged into chaos as they compete for control of her mind.

"Pixar's 15th feature proves to be the greatest idea the toon studio has ever had ... promises to forever change the way people think about the way people think, delivering creative fireworks grounded by a wonderfully relatable family story," said Peter Debruge of Variety.

"A Numbskulls for the digital generation, Inside Out is funny enough, sweet enough and wise enough to sit in an adjacent room to Up and WALL-E," wrote Donald Clarke of the Irish Times.

"Pixar's delightful and sophisticated latest takes us on a dazzling journey into the mind of a child," said Sophie Monks Kaufman of Little White Lies.

"It is tremendously buoyant and watchable, with some great visual invention," said Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian.

"A bittersweet look at childhood's end that might be Pixar's most layered and complex film since Ratatouille," said Edward Douglas of ComingSoon.net.

Inside Out, co-starring Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and Kyle MacLachlan, gets a wide theatrical release on June 19, 2015.
