Miley Cyrus' Homeless VMA Date, Jesse Helt, Jailed For 6 Months

Remember when Miley Cyrus took a homeless man to the MTV VMAs as her date? Well now he's serving six months in jail!
Miley Cyrus' date to the MTV Video Music Awards in August has been jailed for violating the terms of his probation. Jesse Halt has received a six month sentence.

Cyrus allowed a homeless man Jesse Halt, who was her date for the VMAs (25th August), to accept the award for Video of the Year on her behalf in order to raise awareness for the 1.6 million homeless people living in the US.
Unfortunately, there was a warrant out for Halt's arrest in Oregon. The publicity generated by Cyrus' charitable moment drew attention not only to the issue of homelessness but to Halt and his legal troubles. Halt was reportedly charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary in 2010.
Miley Cyrus used her VMA award to raise awareness.
However, he had broken the terms of his probation on a number of occasions and, shortly after the VMAs, a spokesperson for Polk County Community Corrections explained how Helt "doesn't make himself available to community supervision, and he takes off." He violated his parole in 2011 and again this year as he was out of state in California.
A few days after the news of the warrant broke, on 29th August, Helt turned himself in to the authorities. He posted bail, as ABC News reports, but received a six month prison sentence today (7th September).
Cyrus has not made any reference to the new of Helt's imprisonment. However, she made her position clear shortly after the media focussed in on Helt's legal troubles. In a caption on Instagram, Cyrus wrote: "While the media obsesses over one homeless mans legal issue, let's help the other 1.6 million homeless youth."
