Miley Cyrus attended amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York on Tuesday night (16.06.15) with an ''agender'' date on her arm.

Th 22-year-old singer - who is a notable advocate for the LGBT community, having previously revealed she's had relationships with men and women - turned up for the sixth annual Inspiration Gala with her friend Tyler Ford by her side.

Prior to the event - which raised money for the fight against AIDS - Miley wrote on her Instagram account: ''Meet Tyler (@tywrent), a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!! Tyler is a q***r, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs (sic)''

The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker - who proudly revealed her hairy armpits while posing on the red carpet - also quoted Tyler talking about the experiences as an agender person.

The quote read: ''My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.''

Tyler is a close friend of Ariana Grande, and the 21-year-old star took to Instagram to voice her support for the duo.

She wrote: ''i am so proud of my friends. today'ssss a beautiful day @mileycyrus @tywrent #happyhippiepresents #instapride good luck w your beauuutiful speech. (sic)''
