It never fails to be disturbing and upsetting when genuinely racist or prejudice words and phrases manage to pass the lips of the general public, but when it's a politician - a person who has power over laws and jurisdiction of a country - it becomes that much more problematic. Both Jewish organizations and fans of Mila Kunis have expressed their disgust with the Ukrainian lawmaker Igor Miroshnichenko, as he referred to the young Forgetting Sarah Marshall star as a 'zhydovka' to justify his opinion that she's not a 'true Ukrainian.'

This word translates as 'dirty Jewess' and was used during WWII by the Nazis as they rounded up Jews to murder them in death camps and concentration camps, as is described in a letter sent to the Ukrainian government from the Simon Wiesenthal Center in L.A., as TMZ reports. They have asked the government to "publically condemn this attack and to take measures to defeat the xenophobic forces that threaten your democracy." The letter was on behalf of 400,000 members of the centre, against the general treatment of the Jewish community by the Svoboda Party, paying particular attention to the specific event of referring to Kunis as a 'zhydovka'.

Mila Kunis was born in Ukraine to a Jewish family, who, according to the letter, moved from Ukraine due to anti-Semitism when Kunis was 7 years old. As yet Kunis has not given a statement about her feelings regarding the slur, which the politician made in a rant on Facebook.
