Michael Keaton has slammed the Hollywood trend of making sequels to box office hits - insisting moviemakers can become "soft and lazy" by relying on a successful format.
The actor starred in his own blockbuster action franchise when he played Batman in the first two Tim Burton films in the early 1990s.
He has also provided the voice of Ken Doll in the upcoming third installment of the Toy Story movie series.
But Keaton is adamant that producers and directors can become complacent if they keep churning out follow-ups without good plots - taking aim at recent superhero sequel Iron Man 2, which was poorly-received by critics.
He tells Britain's Daily Express, "I think the makers of sequels just get soft and lazy and don't think they need to try any more.
"I've heard that about Iron Man 2. I haven't seen it yet but I have heard that it's not as good as the first one for that very reason."
However, he insists the upcoming Toy Story movie is better than its predecessors: "Thankfully, Toy Story 3 is as good if not better than the original."
