Marvel Studios announce Michael Douglas will star alongside Paul Rudd in the film adaptation of 'Ant-Man', the actor will be entering the world of superhero's for the first time.
Michael Douglas will officially star in his first superhero film. The 69 year-old has joined the cast of Marvel's newest film adaptation 'Ant-Man'.
Douglas will act opposite comedian Paul Rudd, in the Edgar Wright-directed movie, who is also venturing into the world of superhero's for the first time.
The 'Last Vegas' actor will play scientist 'Dr. Hank Pym' and Rudd will feature in the title role as 'Scott Lang' aka 'Ant-Man'.
This clears up a lot of confusion in terms of who is playing who, 'Hank Pym' was the original 'Ant-Man' but didn't suit Rudd's appearance.
Fans now know the 'This Is 40' actor will be playing his successor, and the second man to portray the miniature crime fighter, 'Scott Lang'.
"With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a statement.
"We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."
The announcement of the new casting comes in the midst of Douglas picking up the 'Best Actor-Miniseries or Television Film' award at the 71st annual Golden Globes this past Sunday (Jan 12th).
The husband of Catherine Zeta-Jones was honored for his brilliant portrayal of 'Liberace' in HBO's 'Behind the Candelabra'.
'Ant-Man' is scheduled for a release date of July 31st 2015, which will compete with other huge summer blockbusters such as Marvel's 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron,' the 'Man of Steel' sequel which will feature Henry Cavill's 'Superman' as well as Ben Affleck's 'Batman,' 'Jurassic Park IV' and a reboot of the 'Terminator' franchise.
