Sir Michael Caine Stayed Away From The Cannes Film Festival In France After Losing An Acting Prize In 1966.
The Dark Knight star returned to the glitzy annual event this week (begs18May15) to promote his new movie Youth, and admits he had not been to the festival for 49 years after he failed to scoop an acting honour for his role in Alfie, which won the Special Jury Prize in 1966.
At a press conference for Youth on Wednesday (20May15), he says, "I was here with a film called Alfie... It won a prize and I didn't. So I never came back. I'm not going all that way for nothing."
Caine stars as a retired orchestra conductor on holiday with his daughter, played by Rachel Weisz. The movie, also co-starring Harvey Keitel and Jane Fonda, has already been picked up by bosses at Fox Searchlight for a U.S. cinema release.
