Michael Bay was reportedly attacked by two men whilst filming for the latest in the Transformers franchise in Hong Kong.
Michael Bay, director of the Transformer's franchise, was reportedly attacked in Hong Kong on Thursday (17th October). The 48-year-old was in Hong Kong filming for the latest Transformers instalment (Age of Extinction) when two brothers apprehended him. The attacking brothers, both with the surname Mak, allegedly demanded Bay them for the inconvenience caused by the shoot. The pair requested HKS$100 000 (approximately $12 900) as their vendor businesses had been suffering owing to filming, according to Reuters.
Michael Bay was in Hong Kong filming for Transformers: Age of Extinction when he was reportedly attacked.
Bay, writing on his website, revealed further details on the dramatic events. He stated that although the vendors received a "fair price" for any inconvenience caused by the filming, one particular vendor wanted "four times" the amount. When Bay directly informed the man this was unreasonable, the vendor returned and attempted to "smack" Bay in the face with an air conditioning unit. Directing action movies has obviously provided Bay with some training as he was able to duck out of the way and push the angry vendor away.
The incident did not end there as the man continued to fight even when the security guard intervened. Bay described his attacker as "a zombie" similar to those in "Brad Pitt's movie World War Z". The director stated "it took seven guys to subdue him. he lifted seven guys up and tried to bite them." He later emphasised the superhuman strength of the man by claiming "it took fifteen Hong Kong cops in riot gear to deal with these punks. In all, four guys were arrested for assaulting the officers."
Michael Bay recieved slight injuries to his face but continued filming.
Bay does not go into further details on the arrest of the two men. However reports in Today claim one brother was arrested on suspicion of blackmail and assault. Meanwhile the elder brother, evidently the "zombie", was arrested on suspicion of assault.
It seems Bay continued with filming despite injuries to the right side of his face. Other than superficial injuries, which Bay refused treatment for, it seems the rest of the cast and crew were unhurt. Three of Hong Kong's police officers were injured and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction, starring Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz, is due to be released in June 2014.
