Streep will head up the Berlin International Film Festival's jury in February next year.
Meryl Streep has been appointed as the president of the jury at next year’s Berlin International Film Festival, the first time that the Hollywood heavyweight has served on any film jury.
The announcement was made on Wednesday (October 14th) that the Suffragette and Ricki And The Flash actress would be heading up the jury at the 66th edition of the annual film festival, which will be determining the award winners at the 10-day event that runs from 11th-21st February 2016.
Meryl Streep has been named as the head of the film jury at the Berlin Film Festival 2016
“It is a thrill to return to the festival under any circumstances, but it is with great relish and anticipation I look forward to jury duty,” Streep said in a statement. “The responsibility is somewhat daunting, as I have never been president of anything before, and I hope I can come up to the precedent set by the distinguished juries of preceding years. Grateful for the honor.”

The festival’s director Dieter Kosslick described Streep as “one of the most creative and multifaceted film artists… …I am very happy that she is returning to Berlin and with her artistic experience will take on the chairmanship of the international jury.”
Three-time Oscar winner Streep has been honoured by the Berlin film festival on many occasions in the past, beginning in 1999 when she received the Berlinale Camera (a special award for services to the festival). In 2003, she, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore won Silver Bear awards for their parts in The Hours, and in 2012 she was given the lifetime achievement award and received the Honorary Golden Bear.
She currently stars alongside Carey Mulligan, Anne-Marie Duff and Helena Bonham Carter in Suffragette, playing the role of the feminist group’s leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
