The first look at the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is here and well, they're not quite like we remember
After all the rumours, criticism and general feelings of nervous anticipation ,a teaser trailer for the upcoming ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ has been released. In the clip, which is only a minute and a half, we get our first real idea of what to expect from the upcoming reboot. So is it time to finally put our anxieties about the new Turtles to rest, or is the fate of our heroes worse than we could have ever imagined?
They're coming, the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’
Those of us who grew up in the late 80s and early nineties probably have very distinct images of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ . Maybe the cartoon’s theme tune is playing in your head right now, ‘heroes in a half-shell, Turtle power!’ or your thinking about the 90s films were the Turtle were played by heavily suited actors. Either way, the Turtles hold a place in a certain generation’s heart. Maybe that’s why when a 2014 reboot of the franchise was announced it was met with so much scepticism.
First off Michael Bay is producing, he's perhaps the most loathed yet successful film maker of our generation. Then there was the news that the Turtles would be from an alien race which only served to cause more fan outrage. Indeed the angry gasps were enough to make Bay retract the idea, saying he was actually keeping close to the original source material. Now though it’s time to stop speculating as we have the first official synopsis along with the movie’s first official trailer. Here we get our first look at the Turtles and a gain better idea of what Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman have in store of us and the beloved characters.
Leonardo is ready for action
The synopsis reads, ‘The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.’ Which doesn't give too much away, but we also know the movie will focus more on the Turtle’s origins.
