Cowabunga, there’s a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer! Problem is, it’s pretty much the same as the last trailer, but with two very important exceptions. This time we were offered our best look at the individual turtles yet and a sneaky glimpse of Shredder. Anyone who’s been following the developments of the Turtle’s reboot will know that opinion has been very much divided so far. But now we’ve got a better look, have our feelings on the upcoming movie got any better?

The first trailer did little to ease the minds of those worried about the fate of their childhood heroes in the hands of Michael Bay. It’s clear the movie will feature his trademarks of plenty of explosions and big buildings crashing down, but beyond the action there’s still many questions left unanswered. For fans of the original comic books and television series, it was the look of the turtles themselves which caused the most contention. A glimpse of Michelangelo’s face left many feeling the turtle’s features had been overly humanised and were just too unlike the original drawings. As the trailers show, overall the turtle’s look is very ‘mutant’. They’re overly muscly and actually quite scary sometimes, but it could work as it fits with the movie's seemingly ‘dark' tone.

In the trailer we also get a good look at the Turtle’s individual gadgets and accessories. Michelangelo is the surfer dude as shown by a rather ridiculous looking shell necklace. Leonardo looks to be dark and brooding and fittingly, since he’s the oldest, a little more worn than the others. Perhaps the biggest Turtle reveal was Donatello, whose gadgetry is out in full force. A first look it seems a bit overly complicated and a little comical, this is one we definitely have to wait and see onscreen before making a final verdict. Raphael is the Turtle we’re offered the most fleeting glance of. All we can really say about him is, he’s got a pretty big shell.

Maybe the most positive thing we can take from the trailer is the slight look we got at Shredder’s costume. Although there was initially scepticism about his new armour, it’s actually pretty cool. It’s been updated enough for the new audience, but doesn't stray too far from the character’s original look. Still, we’ll have to wait and see how the costume actually functions during the film’s action sequences before giving a full verdict.

As much as people might seem to be rushing to show their disdain for the rebooted Turtles before the movie even comes out, really things might not be that bad. Sure they look different and it’s really unclear wether they're meant to be serious or slightly comical, but they’re not horrible, really. Still we’ve got until August 8th to get used to our new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, when the movie hits theatres.
