Way back in 1993, Matthew Mcconaughey was just a student at the University of Texas looking for his big acting break. That break came when the then 24 year old was cast as David Wooderson in Richard Linklater’s coming of age comedy, Dazed and Confused. Now over 20 years later, the audition that started it all for McConaughey has made its way on to Youtube thanks to the Criterion Collection and lets just say, you wont be disappointed.

In the clip a blonde, shaggy haired McConaughey exchanges dialogue with an extremely fresh faced Wiley Wiggins asking him, “Have you got a joint?” As well as concluding “It would be a lot cooler if you did.”

Dressed in a tight 'Headbanger’s Bal'l t-shirt (yay for the early 90s), it’s clear why director Richard Linklater chose the easy going Texan for the role. Although the clip only lasts 1 minute and 27 seconds, we do get to hear McConaughey deliver Wooderson’s most famous line about why he loves high school girls, “I get older they stay the same age.”

Post Dazed and Confused McConaughey went on to become best know for romantic comedies, until he embarked on his career transformation known as the 'McConaissance'. Thanks to more serious roles in 'True Detectiv'e and Dallas Buyers Club, the actor is now both an Oscar and Golden Globe winner.

Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklater has also been racking up the awards in the years since his slacker comedy hit. The 60 year old’s most recent work, Boyhood, has just won Golden Globes for Best Director and Best Movie Drama and is expected to pick up a few more statues at the Academy Awards next month.
