The movie tells the real life story of Dallas electrician Ron Woodroof, who after being diagnosed with AIDs and given 30 days to live attempts to find treatments from across the globe. He also meets other people living with the disease including a transgender woman played by Jared Leto.
The film has received much critical acclaim with the performances of McConaughey and Leto being particularly praised. The role is being seen as a turning point in McConaughey’s career, the actor had become known for mainly starring in rom-coms with little box office success. ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ is hotly tipped to walk away with more than one Academy Award next month.
