As we approach the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who, a special episode looms. It won’t hit TVs until the end of November, but the BBC have decided to take fans of the sci-fi drama on a journey of nostalgia, releasing a trailer featuring each and every incarnation of the iconic role.

William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and the latest Doctor, Matt Smith all feature. Smith, of course, is leaving the show soon, with Peter Capaldi stepping in to fill his dream role.

Danny Cohen, BBC director of television, said: "It's an astonishing achievement for a drama to reach its 50th anniversary. I'd like to thank every person - on both sides of the camera - who has been involved with its creative journey over so many years." In addition to the special episode, the BBC are going into Dr. Who overdrive, with loads of content sure to please the franchise’s fans.

There’ll be a 75-minute special episode, The Day Of The Doctor, starring the current Doctor, Matt Smith, along with his predecessor David Tennant, and a BBC Two lecture by Professor Brian Cox on the science behind the hit show.

It was recently revealed that BBC Worldwide have struck a deal for to show the special in over 200 UK cinemas, many in 3D. Moffat said: “The Doctor has always been a time traveller - now he's travelling time zones.” Tim Davie, chief executive of BBC Worldwide, said: “Few TV shows can still lay claim to being appointment viewing but Doctor Who takes this to another level.” (Mail Online)
