Over 60K signatures asking for Matt Bomer to replace Charlie Hunnam: the 'White Collar' actor speaks out.
Actor Matt Bomer has added his voice to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie casting debate after 61,000 fans disappointed with the movie's recently announced cast have launched a petition calling for the casting of the two lead characters in the erotic trilogy adaptation to be changed. TheWhite Collar star has responded to calls that, despite casting decisions being firmed, he should play the character Christian Grey instead of Pacific Rim actor Charlie Hunnam.
Over 60,000 50 Shades Readers Want To See Bomer Play Grey.
"I'm so grateful for the fans and I'm touched," said Bomer, speaking via Entertainment Tonight. He added "I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota [Johnson]," perhaps in an attempt to calm the sea of rage that seems to be surrounding the casting of two relative unknowns in the adaptations of author EL James' erotic fiction series.
The Actor Has Responded To The Petition, Saying He's "Grateful" & "Touched."
Additionally, the same petition starter - said to be based in Chile - is also calling for The Social Network actress Dakota Johnson to be replaced by Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel in a petition entitled "We want Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele on 50 Shades."
The 50 Shades fans have asked and they haven't asked politely: the angry campaign launched on the website Change.org reads "Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE," in clear breach of the usage rules of the Caps-lock key.
Many Fans Pictured Alexis Bledel As Anastasia Steele.
The movie's producer Dana Brunetti has reiterated that just because certain people's favourite actors weren't chosen doesn't mean the whole movie will suck. He tweeted "There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc[...]So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."
Some Aren't Into The Idea Of Charlie Hunnam Playing Christian Grey.
Not content with keeping within the confines of Change.org, the incensed "mommy porn" readers have taken to social site Twitter in foul-mouthed tirades, personal insults against Brunetti, and vicious slating of the movie, which is due on release next summer. Brunetti took to retweeting some of the more horrible tweets he received, to demonstrate the extent of the campaign's craziness. "WHO YOU THINK YOU F**KING ARE? LITTLE UGLY B**CH. F**K YOU. #NoBomerNoBledelNoMovie," one "fan" screamed through cyberspace, showing just how ugly things could get amongst the more possessive and touchy of the book's readers.
Dakota Johnson Will Play Ana Steele: Some Fans Aren't Happy With The Choice.
With over 70 million copies sold worldwide, the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed movie was never going to be able to please everyone no matter who was cast. Fans who've signed the petition and launched into an online campaign of hatred-spewing have possibly based their opinions on a pair of actors who happen to closely fit EL James' vague descriptions. True Fifty Shades fans should remember that the kinky novels' creator James had a large hand in casting, so they should just sit back and let Hollwood work its magic before they work themselves into a tizzy.
