The trailer has been released for new British music movie Svengali, a 21st century look at the British music industry and how minnows can become big fish on the scene. The comedy focusses on one man trying to establish himself as a manager to be reckoned with against all the odds.

Dixie (Jonny Owen) is a Welsh postman who rocks up in London to pursue his dream of becoming the next big music mogul. He comes across The Premature Congratulations and believes he can help this up-and-coming band hit the big time.

With the help of his partner Michelle (Vicky McClure), Dixie tracks down the band after watching their YouTube videos and offers to be their manager. The band are initially reluctant but begin to be convinced when Dixie starts landing them more and more gigs.
Things soon become pretty rocky for Dixie and Vicky as they battle against the tough music industry with all the arrogant bigwigs they meet along the way. The situation begins to slip from Dixie's grip as The Prems begin to drift, Michelle becomes frustrated and his landlord tries to get him evicted. Dixie is forced to think carefully about his future both privately and professionally, which could mean him retreating to his sleepy hometown in Wales to resume his job as a postman.

42 year-old Owen, who is best known for his appearances in Shameless and for the Bafta-winning dcumentary on the Aberfan disaster in 2006, wrote and produced Svengali. The film premiered in London last night with the cast out celebrating the release with some of the biggest names in British music and film, including the award-winning director Shane Meadows.
Svengali will be released on the 21st March.
