J.C Chandor, who last helmed the acclaimed Robert Redford drama All is Lost, is directing the feature, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian producing. According to the Deadline, Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z) wrote the most recent script, adapting the infamous incident in which BP's oil ring caught fire and exploded, killing 11 crew members and resulting in the largest offshore oil spill in United States history.
Talks are at an early stage though it is thought Wahlberg would play the assistant manager of the rig who tried to save his men. The movie will primarily focus about what happened behind-the-scenes in the 48 hours leading up to the day of the disaster.

The actor and di Bonaventura know each other well having worked together on Transformers: Age of Extinction, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Wahlberg is currently shooting 'Ted 2' with Amanda Seyfried and Seth MacFarlane and has agreed to star in the action-comedy Good Time Gang with Jonah Hill. It stars two party-happy mercenaries who decide to take on a serious case involving a terrorist, only to find their mission complicated when they discover one of them is related to the target. The movie is written by Max Landis and is set for release sometime in 2015.
