We already know that rockers Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love are two of the new faces on Sons of Anarchy for season 7 and creator Kurt Sutter has been explaining his decision to cast the musicians, at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverley Hills.

"I tend to do this every season, I like to do some casting that's a little bit outside the box, you know, from Stephen King to David Hasselhoff - we try to do stuff that's fun," Sutter said at the Sons of Anarchy panel.

Manson plays Ron Tully, described as a "white supremacist prison shot-caller who Jax [Charlie Hunnam's character] uses to expand his power base."

"Manson, I became friends with through some music buddies and he's a huge fan of the show and that was him basically just wearing me down and we found a great role for him and he's great," Sutter said.

As for Love, well, Sutter doesn't know the Hole singer "that well" but knew she harboured an interest of being on the show.

"And then, we had this role of a school teacher and I thought, 'Who better than Courtney Love?' and so it sort of fits into our parameters of 'Sons of Anarchy' casting," Sutter added.

Sons of Anarchy season seven premieres on September 9 at 10pm ET/PT on FX. The season six finale was the second most watched episode of the season and the most watched finale in the series' history.
