Marilyn Manson courted controversy during his show in New York City last week (ends01Feb15) by dedicating a song to a convicted killer who walked free from prison last year (14).

The shock rocker performed at the Terminal 5 venue in Manhattan last Thursday (29Jan15), and shocked the audience by paying tribute to his "old friend of 20 years - Michael Alig."

Former club promoter Alig was convicted of manslaughter for killing and dismembering Andre 'Angel' Melendez in a confrontation over a drug debt in 1996.

He was ordered to serve 10 to 20 years in prison, and was released on parole in May (14).

Alig, who was portrayed by MACaulay Culkin in 2003 movie Party Monster, was at the gig and was invited backstage to meet Manson afterwards, and the New York Post reports the rocker handed him a set list signed in fake blood and even offered to write the foreword to his upcoming book.

Alig tells the newspaper, "It was one of the funniest - and definitely the most uncomfortable dedications I've ever seen."
