The track's collaborator, Miguel, revealed the meaning behind the hashtag in an interview with MTV News.
Mariah Carey revealed her latest single, titled '#Beautiful', earlier this month and already the song is proving to be a hit with fans. Her collaborator on the track, R&B rising star Miguel, offered an explanation behind the song title earlier this week, revealing that the hashtag has an actual meaning rather than just being included in the song name in some vain attempt to appear relevant.
Speaking with MTV News, Miguel revealed that the hashtag has a rather naughty meaning behind it, standing for a explicit word that cannot be uttered on pre-watershed TV or radio. He said, “The hashtag in the title of this song is particularly fitting because the word that comes before ‘beautiful’ when I sing the chorus is an expletive that I can’t say on air. But the hashtag is particularly fitting for that expletive, if you just kind of pay a little bit of attention.”
The track is the lead single from Mariah’s upcoming album, her fourteenth in total, and as Miguel pointed out in his interview, the track is significantly different to any of her other singles because it doesn't open with her singing, but rather with Miguel's vocals.

The 'Adorn' singer went on to say that, unlike the hashtag, his placement in the song has no hidden meaning behind it but was rather Mariah's vision of how the song should unfold. Miguel was in constant praise of the diva throughout the interview, going on to say, “She’s incredible. She’s not only a beautiful spirit, inside and out, she’s just really talented. I couldn’t even fathom how creative she really is and how fast her mind works. … The fact that she had so much vision — enough to want to do the record as it was — and include me is a huge blessing and I appreciate it. She really is beautiful, absolutely, the title was fitting.”
Speaking of hashtags, we bet Mariah was throwing a few around herself following her near-miss on Good Morning America. Don't worry Mariah, we didn't see anything.
