As Madonna's MDNA tour reaches New Orleans, the iconic Vogue singer backed Obama, misjudging her southern, strongly republican audience. 'Who's registered to vote?' She said, 'I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama.' As boos followed her comments, she added, 'Seriously, I don't care who you vote for ... Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote.' As the booing continued many fans walked out, strongly disagreeing with Madonna's democratic allegiance, in the strongly republican state.
Madonna's tour and her escapades during certain concerts over the past year has sparked controversy. Earlier this month in Denver, she played with a toy gun, pointing at the crowd- neglecting to remember that only a few months ago a gun rampage killed numerous innocent people in a movie theatre. Also, earlier this year, as reported by the Daily Mail she displayed a Swastika in a show in France, with fans responding with outrage.
While it could certainly be argued that Madonna's acts show negligence to fans and a lack of sympathy towards them, while living on the tenets of freespeech, Madonna surely exerts that right- and long may she be able to do so. Her behaviour, at the very least, begs us to stand up for our own beliefs. Though the swastika was certainly a step too far, aside from that long may her antics continue- they are, at the very least, wildly entertaining.
