Madonna, who adopted 11 year old son David and 10 year old daughter Mercy from the African country, appeared in court to adopt two more children this week.
Pop veteran Madonna has applied to adopt two more children from Malawi this week, according to local reports.
The 58 year old star appeared in court in the African nation’s capital of Lilongwe on Wednesday (January 25th) to formally make the application, it is understood. She was spotted entering judges chambers and was later observed carrying a child, presumably one of the youngsters she plans to adopt.
Madonna appeared in front of Justice Fiona Mwale amid tight security, accompanied by her entourage and two unidentified children. A spokesperson for the state’s government, Mlenga Mvula, said that the courts will decide within one week as to whether her application is approved, and Madonna will reportedly stay in the country until she learns the outcome.
Madonna is applying to adopt two more children from Malawi
She and her ex-husband Guy Ritchie previously adopted two children from Malawi: son David Banda in 2008 (now 11 years old) and daughter Mercy James in 2010 (now aged 10).
Her involvement in Malawi had dated back to 2006, when she founded the charity Raising Malawi to help address the poverty and hardship faced by the southern African nation’s orphans and vulnerable children.

She visited the country last year with her two older children, Lourdes and Rocco, to check on the progress of the nation’s first paediatric intensive care unit, which her charity is helping to fund and construct. However, that was her first visit in more than two years to the country, where she has at times been involved in controversy.
She was stripped of her VIP status by former president Joyce Banda's government in 2013, accused of being ‘uncouth’ and wanting eternal gratitude from the impoverished country for adopting David and Mercy.
But current president Peter Mutharika thawed relations, saying the following year “my government has always been grateful for the passion Madonna has for this country”.
Madonna described all this as “a real low point in my life” in a 2013 interview with Harper's Bazaar, particularly the attention of the press who questioned her suitability as a parent. “I was accused of kidnapping, child trafficking, using my celebrity muscle to jump ahead in the line, bribing government officials, witchcraft, you name it.”
