Madonna took to Instagram to welcome four year old twin sisters, Esther and Stella, having completed the adoption process earlier this week.
Madonna confirmed that she has expanded her family by posting a picture of the twin sisters she adopted from Malawi on her official Instagram page, celebrating the completion of the process.
The 58 year old singer got permission for the adoptions from a court in the African nation on Tuesday this week (February 7th), having heard of the twins’ story while visiting the Malawi Home of Hope orphanage in the west of the country during a recent charity visit.
Two weeks later, she has now officially adopted four year old sisters Esther and Stella. The singer had already adopted two children from Malawi: son David Banda in 2006, and daughter Mercy James in 2009.
Posting on Instagram the following day, Madonna wrote she was “overjoyed that they are now part of our family. I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible, and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time.”

At the end of January, Madonna had denied that she was planning to adopt more children when initial newspaper reports suggested that she was preparing to adopt the two girls.
“I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with [charity] Raising Malawi, and then heading home,” she had said. “The rumours of an adoption process are untrue.”
Judge Fiona Mwale, adjudicating Madonna’s adoption application, is quoted as saying she was able to supply a loving home life for the twins in “a luxurious, spacious and comfortable abode in an affluent neighbourhood” in the U.S.
She said that although Madonna was “above the age normally considered within the ranges of parenting”, she had supplied medical evidence to support her argument that she was in good health and would be for the foreseeable future.
